New segement in the blog! From now and on I’m going to post links to tv/movie adaptations of classic novels and scripted dramas.
Jane Austen Adaptations
- Persuasion (2007) – This is a great adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel. It’s more mature and not as naive compared to her first novels and because of that it has a special place in my heart.
- Northanger Abbey (2006 or 2007) – JJ Field in the role of Henry Tilney. This is a good adaptation but some parts are a bit over the top.
- Mansfield Park (2007) – The story about the poor girl Fanny who leaves her home to live with her rich aunt and her family. Her only comfort she has in the new surroundings is Edmond, her cousin.
- Emma (2009) – Is a comic novel about the perils of misconstrued romance. With Jonny Lee Miller and Romola Garai.
Agatha Christie Adaptations
- Death on The Nile (~2006) – David Suchet as Hercule Poirot.
- Murder In Mesopotamia (~2006) – David Suchet as Hercule Poirot.
- Five Little Pigs (~2006) – David Suchet as Hercule Poirot.
- The Muder at the Vicarage (2004) – Geraldine McEwan as Miss Marple, the story concerns the murder of a hated magistrate and so-called pillar of the community, Colonel Prothereo, who is found shot at the St Mary Mead vicarage.
- 4:50 From Paddington (2004) – Geraldine McEwan as Miss Marple, when Miss Marple’s friend Mrs. McGillicuddy witnesses a murder on a train, Marple and her young associate Lucy Eyelesbarrow investigate the situation
Adaptations Based on Novels
- North and South (2004) – Written by Elizabeth Gaskell and produced by BBC, this is one period drama that shouldn’t be missed!
- Tess of The D’Urbervilles (~2008) – I saw the first adaptation that was made many years ago of this period drama and every time I arrive at the end I’m always surprised, thinking that someone somewhere may have changed the storyline. But if they had then this wouldn’t be Tess of The D’Urbervilles and the story would not be as amazing.
- An Ideal Husband (1999) – Another of Wilde’s social satires, An Ideal Husband revolves around the lives of two men, successful political figure Sir Robert Chiltern and his friend the uninspired but utterly charming Lord Arthur Goring. The world of these men is turned upside down by the arrival of old acquaintance Mrs. Laura Cheveley who has come with blackmail in mind. Chiltern could lose everything including his wife Gertrude…
TV Drama Adaptations
- FIRELIGHT - In 1838, lovely governess Elisabeth agrees to bear a child of anonymous English landowner, and he will in return pay her father’s debt. With Sophie Marceau & Stephen Dillane.
- The Way We Live Now – Is a miniseries with 4 episodes based on a novel by Anthony Trollope. Casting includes Matthew Macfadyen, Cillian Murphy and David Suchet.
I love period dramas! I’ve seen many and I’ve got sooo many on my TBW list. I like collecting DVDs.
